The
Kipling House
About
Us
In
the Late 1800s, the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. built a blast furnace near the
shore of Little Bay de Noc on Lake Michigan. As a result of the increased labor
force, Erick Walberg built the three-story Kipling House as a boarding house for
workers.

The
current owners, Ralph and Ann Miller, have taken great pride in lovingly
restoring this 100-year-old
home to its past grandeur in keeping with the history of the community.
They
have carefully included pieces of the history of Delta County; a granite counter
in the kitchen once saw life in a long-ago bank used by the ironworkers;
cherry-stained paneling which lines
the elegant dining room that once graced the walls of the historic House of
Ludington; and antique postal boxes now used as key-holders for the Kipling
House guests.
Ralph
is a member of the American Culinary Federation and enjoys cooking for his
guests. Six course dinners have become a special event. For those who select a
nearby restaurant in the
area, fresh desert in the evening and a full gourmet breakfast are included in
the over night stay.
